Strength and Song is a new artistic voice rising in the Charlotte community—a young dance company devoted to telling the stories that shape us. Rooted in reflection and fueled by expression, the company uses movement as a language to explore the beauty, tension, and truth of everyday life.

Through original works that blend narrative, emotion, and dynamic choreography, Strength and Song seeks to illuminate the human experience and invite audiences into moments of connection and meaning. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, this emerging company is carving out a space where storytelling and dance meet with purpose and heart.

Strength and Song envisions a community where movement becomes a mirror—reflecting truth, restoring hope, and revealing the beauty woven through every human story. We strive to create dance works that speak with honesty and heart, using storytelling through movement to inspire reflection, spark connection, and awaken a deeper sense of purpose in both dancers and audiences.

Mikayla Broome

Mikayla Broome is a dancer, choreographer, actress, and the founder of Strength and Song, a dance company dedicated to bringing narratives to life through movement and language. She discovered her love for storytelling at a young age and has been creating ever since. Through her work, Mikayla explores the connection between body, mind, and spirit, using dance as a powerful tool for reflection, expression, and engaging in the beauty of creation. She believes dance has the ability to make emotions tangible and remind every soul of its inherent worth. Mikayla is deeply grateful to create and lead alongside artists who share a passion for honest storytelling and embodied expression.

Abbey Koenig

Amria Hancock

Amria Hancock is a professionally trained dancer with over 17 years of experience across ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and musical theatre. She has trained and performed with the American Dance Festival at Duke University, Movement Migration, Charlotte Ballet, Dance Revolution conventions, and in stage productions including Dreamworks The Prince of Egypt the musical. Known for her versatility, strong technique, and expressive performance quality, Amria brings both discipline and artistry to every space she enters.

Calvin Coleman

Calvin Coleman brings 13 years of dance experience to his role as a middle school dance educator in the Charlotte area. Specializing in Hip Hop and Modern, he creates a structured, engaging learning environment that supports strong technique, creativity, and student growth. Calvin is committed to developing confident, disciplined young dancers who feel empowered to express themselves through movement.

Zoe Freas

Zoe began dancing at age five in several styles and has since performed nationally and internationally. A UNC Charlotte Dance graduate, she currently works as an instructor with the Charlotte Ballet Academy teaching ballet and tap. Performance highlights post graduation include the 2024 North Carolina Dance Festival and a traveling dance collective, Cure8 dance series, that collaborates with local artists in each city along its route. Zoe hopes to continue to be able to plant seeds in the younger generation of dancers in the Charlotte area and share her talents across many different avenues.

Elyse Wallace

Elyse Wallace has spent 17 years growing in her love for dance, with 15 years of training at King David Christian Conservatory in ballet, tap, pointe, contemporary, and jazz. She teaches dancers ages 5–18 at her local ministry, encouraging confidence and strong technique. Elyse also serves as Team Captain of the Queens University Dance Team. Dance is central to who she is, and she loves sharing that passion with others.
